Day 01:

Bucharest
Upon arrival in Bucharest you will be met and taken to your centrally located hotel. Remainder of the day is at leisure to begin your exploration of the Romanian capital, known as the "Paris of the East." Overnight Hotel Capitol or similar.

Day 02:

Bucharest
In the afternoon you will enjoy a walking tour of the city center of Bucharest. Dinner and overnight Hotel Capitol or similar.

 

Day 03:

Bucharest-Curtea De Arges-Cozia Monastery-Sibiu
After breakfast depart to Curtea de Arges (former capital of Wallachia). Visit the beautiful Episcopal Church where the Romanian Kings are buried. Lunch will be served en route. Drive across Ramnicu Valcea and along the picturesque Olt Valley for a visit to the Cozia Monastery then on to Sibiu (0ne of the oldest towns in Transylvania, formerly known as Hermannstadt and founded by Saxon Colonists). Upon arrival you will enjoy a guided walking tour of the medieval town including the Main Square, Evangelical Church and the Liar's Bridge. Dinner and overnight Hotel Continental or Parc or similar.

Day 04:

Sibiu-Sighisoara-Targu Mures-Bistrita
This morning depart for Sighisoara, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler (Dracula). Visit the medieval citadel, the "Upper Town, the Clock Tower and the Church on the Hill. Lunch will be served in Sighisoara. Continue to Targu Mures for a visit of its elegant city center which is located around the Roses Square. Drive on to Bistrita, one of the 7 main medieval towns of "Siebengurgen" (the German name for Transylvania). Dinner and overnight in Bistrita at the Hotel Coroana de Aur (The Golden Crown) or similar.

Day 05:

Tuesday-Bistrita-Mamarures-Campulung Moldovenesc
Depart across the mountains towards Maramures, the region north of Tranylvania most famous for its woodwork traditions. Drive along the picturesque villages of Sacel, Dragomiresti, Rozavlea with their wooden churches. Lunch en route. Visit the unique Merry Cemetery in Sapanta. Afternoon drive across the Prislop Pass to Bucovina. In Campulung Moldovenesc dinner will be served at the Sura Bucovineana restaurant. Overnight at the Zimbru Hotel or similar.

Day 06:

Campulung Moldovenesc-Monasteries-Piatra Neamt
Today you will visit the unique monasteries with outside frescoes of Moldovita, Sucevita and Voronet known as the "Sistine Chapel of the Orient." Lunch will be served en route. Afternoon drive south to visit the Agapia Monastery (with its carpet and icon workshops). Dinner and overnight in Piatra Neamt at the Hotel Ceahlau or similar.

Day 07:

Piatra Neamt-Brasov
Depart across the mountains to Brasov through the spectacular Bicaz Gorges, the Red Lake, Miercurea Ciuc. Lunch en route. Visit the beautiful fortified church of Prejmer. Dinner and overnight in either Brasov or Poiana Brasov. Hotel Capital in Brasov or similar.

Day 08:

Brasov-Bran-Sinaia-Bucharest
This morning you will be taken on a tour of Brasov (formerly Kronsstadt) including the Black Chruch. Continue to Bran for a visit to "Dracula's Castle." Drive across the mountains to Sinaia. Lunch en route. In Sinaia visit the Sinaia Monastery built in 1695 and to the fabulous Peles Castle, the former summer residence of the Romanian Royal family. Afternoon drive south to Bucharest. upon arrival you will visit the outdoor village Museum. Dinner with traditional Romanian dishes will be served in a local restaurant. Overnight Hotel Capitol or similar.

Day 09:

Bucharest-End of Tour
After breakfast you will be taken to the airport or you may extend your stay in lovely Bucharest. You may also choose to continue on to Bulgaria or Hungary.
